Meet Rowsquare Nollywoods Fast Rising Filmmaker

Nollywood over the years has grown to become the second largest movie production industry in the world, behind India’s Bollywood which is number one in the world.

Nollywood contributes more than 2500 movies to the number of movies released worldwide, on a yearly basis. Despite the high number of movies produced yearly, Nollywood as an industry still face a major limitation of production budgeting as there are no financial support system in place by the Nigeria government, to aid movie makers in Nigeria, as is in place in Hollywood, Bollywood and other movie production industries world over.

Nigerian Filmmakers produce movies according to their financial capacity, hence, the presence of a lot of low quality movies in Nollywood, which is gradually fading away with the interest of the international movie market in Nollywood.

The growth of quality movie production in Nollywood has revived the cinema viewing culture of movies which was once a Nollywood dream. It has also increased the demand for Nollywood movies in the international scene as they are now a regular feature on international movie festivals and streaming platforms like Netflix.

Nollywood A-list actors, Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, have all been inducted into the OSCAR movie selection academy.

Thanks to the ever growing industry that houses different movie production companies and film making institutions, which has provided employment to a lot of Nigerians of which a majority are youths, and equiping them with the needed skills, providing job for more than a million people, giving young film makers the opportunity to express themselves creatively, telling home grown stories with the camera.

Meet Rowsquare Nollywoods Fast Rising Filmmaker…

One of such young filmmakers contributing greatly to the growth of Nollywood is ROWSQUARE, the CEO of Rowsquare Media Concept and Movie Academy, a movie production house that has been grooming and graduating local talents into Nollywood stars.

Rowsquare whose birth name is Orobosa Odaro Osarumwense Stanley is a native of Benin, Edo State, born to the family of Mr Peter and Mrs Julie Osarumwense.

Growing up, he attended Owegie primary school from 1992 to 1998, then proceeded to Akenzua Secondary School in 1999 where he obtained his Secondary School Leaving Certificate ( SSCE ) in 2003.

After his secondary school education unlike many Nigerian secondary school leavers who give up hope of furthering their education, due to their family background and the high cost of tertiary education in Nigeria, Rowsquare took to hawking in the streets of Benin. From that he learnt block moulding which he did for almost 5 years, to save money to further his education by himself.

When he is sure he had saved enough money to further his education, he decided to pursue a career in film making as he has always had a great passion for the entertainment industry and telling stories through the video camera lens.

As a child, he grew up admiring movies of the great Edo State origin film maker Lancelot Oduwarene Imasuen and movie director Ugazu J Ugazu, who he listed as his Idols and people he has plans to work with.

In 2009, he gained admission into the Film And Broadcast Academy ( FABA ) Ozoro, Delta State. There he groomed his passion for the entertainment industry studying Performing And Media Art, bagging a National Diploma in 2012.

After graduating in 2012, Rowsquare worked in the entertainment industry as an apprentice for over 2 years perfecting his craft and learning the business of film making. One movie director he met in the process that he named as his biggest mentor is Johnson John Odidefe.

While working as an apprentice, he had plans of producing his own movie, so he made it an habit to save a bit of the money he gets working as a production assistant. When he was sure he had saved enough money, Rowsquare ventured into movie production with 2 movies which he produced back to back in 2015 ( ABOKI MY LOVER and MAMA CYNTHIA GOES TO SCHOOL ).

With these movies, he experimented everything he learnt as an apprentice and mastered the business of film making.

Today, Rowsquare is an award  winning Movie Producer, Director, Cinematographer, award winning Production Manager, Instructor at the Film And Broadcast Academy ( FABA ) Ozoro, and CEO of Rowsquare Media Concept And Film Academy, with over 20 movies to his credit and an high school series.

His notable movies include: IVIE OGIE, DELILAH, JENNIFER AND JANE, BLACK FRIDAY, LINDA THE SERPENT, and many others.

Movie production has taken Rowsquara all over Nigeria as he does not limit himself to working only for his production company. He has been called upon on a lot of ocassions to lend his experience to other production houseses as a movie director and cinematographer.

Though he has achieved alot as a young film maker, he still don’t think he has done enough as he revealed on a chat with that he has big goals he is yet to achieve among which is owning one of the best film academy in Nigeria, that would contribute a great deal in grooming stars for Nollywood.

His advice for anyone aspiring to get into Nollywood or be a film maker like him is, “believe in yourself and your dreams, always pray to GOD for spiritual backup because nothing happens without GOD.”
