Overtime, Nigeria has had a lot of musicians with concepts that people term ‘crazy but very entertaining.’

 

From the likes of legendary Afrobeat King Fela Anikulapo Kuti to Charliboy, Daddy Showkey,Zule Zoo, and many others.

 

The last musician that wowed Nigerians with his crazy but entertaining concept was Terry G AKA the Akpako master.

He came into the entertainment industry announcing his crazy concept with the hit song ‘ Free Madness’ which was released in 2008 as the lead single of his album ‘Ginjah Your Swaggah’.

 

The song immediately became a street anthem launching him into the music industry proper. All through his reign in the industry as the craziest musician in Nigeria, Terry G got Nigerians imitating his crazy dance steps accompanied by a bell. Terry G maintained his fire until 2019 when he dropped his ‘Terry Gruz’ album.

 

Since his heat went down, the question on the streets became who will be the next Crazy Nigerian artiste to come out with another crazY concept that would get the whole nation rocking and reciting the lines of his songs as they imitate whatever crazy concept or dance step he bring with it?

Naira Marley became the answer. Born Azeez Adeshina Fashola. Naira Marley came to limelight of the Nigerian music industry in 2017 releasing the hit single ‘Issa Goal’, featuring YBNL lead artiste as at then Olamide and Lil Kesh, even though he began his career in 2014.

 

The song went on to become the official song for Nigeria Super Eagles 2018 FiFa World Cup Campaign. Though the song was a hit, it wasn’t the song that got Naira Marley into this list of Nigerias Craziest Musicians.

 

Naira Marley made the list for the song that formed a movement immediately it became a street anthem. You must have known it by now. Am talking about no other song but ‘SOAPY.’

 

A song that many Nigerian Music Critics termed immoral and not good for the airways as it projects Masturbaytion.

 

The song which was released in late June 2019 after Naira Marley trended for months in Nigeria for his being acused of being a fraudster by the Economic and financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ) of Nigeria, was banned from airplays by Nigerian Broadcasting Commission ( NBC ), but it did not stop the song from becoming the number one song in the country.

Prior to this, Naira Marley had two hit songs that were already street anthems ( JAPA, and Am I A YAHOO BOY ). Japa controversial for encouraging fraud, the other for acusing the EFCC for arresting and illegally detaining him with no evidence of his being a fraudster.

 

Since releasing ‘SOAPY’ his fanbase MARLIANS as he call them, has grown to become a movement known as ‘MARLIANS MOVEMENT’ AKA ‘AWON NO MANNERS.’

 

They are known for portraying Naira Marleys lifestyle of wearing no belt, dropping their trousers from their waist, smoking and womanizing. Something they call the free lifestyle.

 

This many call reckless but Naira Marley and his fans care less as their president himself as he is called said it in one of his 2019 songs ‘BAD INFLUENCE’,

 

“Can’t Tell Me What To Do. Smoke Weed, Fvck Girls, Do What Da Fvck i Wan’t.”

 

 

His fanbase and Marlian Movement is instrument to his success as they turn out enmasse to stream and promote every song he drop, selling out his concerts.

 

Naira Marley himself emhasize how much he appreciate their support in almost every song he drops. And also support as many of them as he can financially from time to time.

 

 

In 2021, Naira Marley dropped one of the most cobtroversial songs of the year if not the most talked about song ‘COMING’ feat South African sensational singer Busiswa.

 

Since dropping his very successful ‘LORD OF LAMBA’ EP in 2019, he has been on top of his game dropping hits back to back. His recent single ‘KOJOSESE’ released December 16th 2021 is already doing great numbers on the varIous streaming platforms its available on, for streaming.

When we are yet to get enough of Naira Marleys and his Marlian Movement , Bella Shmurda took us by storm first appearing on Olamide’s 2020 released album ‘CARPEDIEM’, on the song ‘TRIUMPHANT.’ His beautiful delivery on the song, got people to notice him more as he already had a single titled ‘VISION 2020’, that had started enjoying airplays in various radio stations in Nigeria.

 

 

Born Akinbiyi Abiola Ahmed, Bella Shmurda has been on the Nigerian Music scene since 2018. He made this list for his crazy lifestyle. When he is not making music, he is seen smocking weed, drinking to stupor, or making English blunders.

 

He came to limelight fully when he released the hit single ‘CASH APP’ featuring Zlatan and Lincoln, in 2020.

 

Bella Shmurda became the most demanded artiste of the year as the song became a street anthem. It also came with a lot of controversies as many were of the opinion that the song should be banned as it is promoting fraud, which never happened.

 

Bella Shmurda gave fans of the popular Award Show HEADIES, the laugh of their lives in the 2020 edition on which he was nominated for the ‘NEXT RATED ARTISTE’ Award alongside Omah Lay and Oxlade, which he lost to Omah Lay.

 

He has also been reported to leave his former record label ‘One Word Global Records Limited’ in a controversial way for his current label ‘Dangbana Republik.’

 

One time Bella Shmurda made the news for appearing for a performance drunk. On which he couldn’t Perform as espected by the organizers of the show and the audience, so he was escorted out of the venue by his team.

 

Another time Bella Shmurda made the news was when he dropped the video to his 2021 hit song ‘RUSH’, in March. The video featured half nakeed girls demonstrating on the background as he sings and dance. A lot of people were of the opinion that the video is a disrespect to the female gender. Some went to the extent of calling on Nigerian Broadcasting Commission ( NBC ) to ban the music video.

 

Despite his crazy lifestyle, he has made a mark in the Nigerian music scene as an artiste that has come to stay for a long time, releasing hit songs back to back and delivering when called upon for a feature.

Last on the list is new comer Portable Omolalomi known In the streets as ‘ZazU Zeh’ AKA Werey Lorin ( madman of music ). Portable whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola came to limelight after dropping the single ‘ZAZU ZEH’ in December 2021. The song has since become a viral song and a street anthem to the extent that it got the attention of YBNL boss Olamide, dancer Pocolee, and Instagram influencer and song promoter Kogbagidi jumped on the remix produced by P-Priime.

 

The remix featuring Olamide and Pocolee, immediately became a success and street anthem. A video followed that featured promoter Kogbagidi. The video didn’t waste time to top video charts in the country as Portable had become the fastest rising artiste in Nigeria when the video dropped.

 

In his little time in the industry, Portable has made the news for controversies With Pocolee and Kogbagidi, people he call his benefactors.

 

Word on the streets say they are the ones that helped him to limelight. His controversies with them results from their not having a contractual agreement over how they would share returns from his music.

 

 

Portable took to his official Instagram account @portablebaeby to complain about Pocolee cheating him by collecting $2400 of the $3000 Wizkid sprayed on him while he was performing at his Livespot concert in Lagos.

 

Olamide later came in and settled their difference with both of them telling the general public that that chapter of their lives has passed and the general public should move on and enjoy his music as they have moved on.

 

Not too long, a video went Viral via Instablog showing Portable having a heated argument with promoter Kogbagidi, on which he accused Kogbagidi of trying to cheat him of some money.

 

After the video went viral, Portable dropped a song titled ‘OGO FOREVER’ which made many say the heated argument with Kogbagidi was a publicity stunt.

 

In an interview with BBC PIDGIN, he later agreed that the rumours on the street about his misunderstanding with Pocolee and Kogbagidi was a publicity stunt as they are good and getting along well.

 

In a more detailed interview with veteran Nigerian rapper Jahbless, on his ‘JAHBLESS ORIGINAL INTELLIGENCE’ show, portable revealed he is self sponsored at the moment and not in any business partnership with Pocolee and Kogbagidi as people think.

 

According to him, they only helpes him get to Olamide who sponsored the remix of his hit song ‘ZAZU ZEH’ on which he featured, and the music video of the song.

 

He also revealed that he is got over 400 recorded songs and he could drop 2 albums at the same time if he want to. Also, said he is got 2 Kogbagidi’s in his life. The known Instagram promoter and One Kogbagidi Lavish Funds who helps him financially.

 

His most shocking revelations on that interview is his having 2 kidS, both boys from two ladies, and his not taking alcohol which many won’t believe due to his razz attitude, which according to him is natural.

 

 

In his short time of making it to the limelight  of the Nigerian music industry, Portable has met almost all the A- list Nigerian musicias from Olamide to Davido to Wizkid,  Tiwa Savage, Small Doctor,  Yinka Ayefele,  Phyno,  Timaya, Peruzzi, and many
others.

 

 

“Many Many Werey Wanle ( many crazy people are on ground ).” Nigeria has had many crazy musicians overtime if i am to use Olamides’ lines from the remix of ‘ZAZU ZEH’ , in my own words, but these are the ones that came to my mind while writing this composition.
